As I’m writing this article, I can feel it coming.  Can you?  The busy-ness and stress of the holidays is fast approaching.  My parents were already calling yesterday for my kids’ Christmas list items to start shopping.  I’m pricing holiday meals for family that will be in town this weekend.  So, its officially HERE! Now, don’t get me wrong – I LOVE the holidays and spending time with family.  I also have an awesome job as a professor so I get a lot of extra time off in December as school is out (yes, I’m spoiled -I know and appreciate it!)  But even for me it can be hard to stay FOCUSED on my fitness program and goals and avoid pitfalls of holiday meals, comfort food as the outside temperatures drop and stress of making sure all the gifts are gotten and wrapped and Christmas cards….well, you guys know what I’m talking about right? So, how do you stay on track with workouts and nutrition during the holidays?  Here are MY best tips and strategies on avoiding weight gain, staying consistent with workouts and keeping your sanity during a busy time of year. 1. Have a plan and stick to it! Its soooo much easier to stay focused when you have written workout and meal plans to follow.  Personally I am a plan-follower so if I sit down and write or type something out, I’m much more likely to follow it and my inner nerd is at peace.  When I’m waking up in the morning and deciding what workout I will do that day or deciding daily what to eat for dinner, its much easier to give into temptation and skip a workout or give into unhealthy, fast meal options. 2. Set your goal to maintain and definitely get in exercise daily. Depending on your holiday schedule, this MAY not be the time of year where you will see extraordinary results and pounds and inches falling off left and right.  It MIGHT BE but chances are you will likely have at least a few extra “special meals” and parties to attend or few dozen cookies to bake.  But we don’t want to back slide...

I’m not sure whether to be excited or very, very scared but celebrity trainer Shaun T has created a brand new fitness program that will be released in December.   Introducing INSANITY MAX:30™ With INSANITY®, Shaun T gave you a year’s worth of results in only 60 days. In talking with a lot of people who have tried or completed the original Insanity workout, many of us including Anthony and I have commented how much more we like the Month 1 workouts vs Month 2 just due to the longer workouts and time required.  I think with Max 30 workouts all being 30 minutes, it will make it a little more manageable for tough schedules and allow you to work harder during those 30 minutes knowing you don’t have to go a full hour.  There’s also a modifier in every workout so that everyone can achieve success.  If you’ve ever done a Shaun T workout, you know you’re going to WORK whether you modify or not!     I’m also intrigued by the concept of the program which will have you recording your “MAX OUT” time each day during every workout.  The goal is that you will increase the time it takes you to reach your max point and progress your fitness level for insane results.  Science tells us that the body has to be taken beyond its capacity or out of its “comfort zone” so to speak to get stronger, fitter and see continued progression and improvement.  This is different from the original Insanity principle of “Max Interval Training” with longer periods of high intensity work and short rest breaks.  Max 30 doesn’t have breaks!  Max 30 also contains 150 new exercises!  So...

P90X3 Available Dec 10th!

At our last Quarterly event for Beachbody Coaches, we got to try out a workout from Tony Horton’s brand new P90X3 which is due to release on December 10th.  This latest program takes all the results-producing exercises and principles from P90X and P90X2 and packs them into 30 minute intense workouts to get you extreme results FAST!  The latest research is showing that higher intensity, shorter duration workouts can be more effective at improving fitness, strength, and body composition much faster.  The workout we did was called the Warrior workout and included a variety of exercises including strength,  cardio, core and even yoga moving from one challenging set to the next with little to no rest.  I am excited to see the results our P90X3 Challenge group will get starting January 1st.  Check out this short video to learn more and contact us at anthony@fergusonfitness.com to be the first into our P90X3 Challenge Group to get your New Year started...
