3/7/77…. yes that is my birth date which means in less than two months I will be turning 39! A little background: Since I was a kid I have always been active and what most would describe as hyper so working out has always been therapy for me even before I realized it was good for me. Playing basketball from a early age through high-school kept me super lean and it took me until I was 16 before I realized you could actually build muscle through strength training. I was hooked and started competing in teenage bodybuilding events and within my first two years I went from a wirey 135 to competing at a ripped 175 thanks to the training and nutrition advice of my trainer and a supportive gym family. I was also training at the same time for the most important goal I had ever set..becoming a United States Marine. I left two days after graduating high school for Parris Island SC and again thanks to my training, I completed boot camp and discovered I enjoyed the intensity and challenge of extreme physical challenges. During my time as a Marine I helped train Marines who had ended up in the remedial program and admittedly it was not always pretty for them but as we say “no one ever promised you a rose garden” While being stationed in San Diego California I discovered people were actually earning a living helping people live a healthier life.  So in 1997 I became a personal trainer! I loved it from the start and have been training ever since. Now after all these years here I am still doing what I love and along with my wife and family we own a fitness studio and have had the honor of helping thousands of people live a healthier lifestyle. Spring is HERE!!  Being an active family and admitted warm weather fans, we are very excited that its finally warmer and we can start being outdoors more.  This also means we can add Star City Boot Camp back to our Group Training schedule back by popular demand.  We also have the advantage of having our boot camp be slightly more “authentic” in that its designed by a former United States Marine!!  That’s my amazing hubby and business partner Anthony Ferguson in case you didn’t know. The schedule is listed below. We will offer our Boot Camp format on Mondays and Wednesdays along with Saturday mornings.  We will still offer hybrid workouts of P90X & Insanity and Piyo will continue on Thursday mornings.     We have designed our boot camp workouts  based on including the 4 Cs – Conditioning(thinks lots of push ups, squats and burpees – oh my!), Cardio (sprints, tabata drills, and other “fun” challenges), Core Training (get strong from the inside out) and Challenges (will require teamwork!)  We will include  variety in each workout to make sure you get cardiovascular endurance, strength training, flexibility work and core training – all components that should be included in every balanced fitness program.  Plus you will feel a sense of teamwork and camaraderie from working out in a group that tends to make everyone push a little harder which will ultimately lead to you getting fitter! Anthony is breathing down my neck as I’m typing this because he is SO excited for this announcement.  We are now affiliates with Fitbit and plan to give our clients the option of adding these amazing tools to our services to help them build healthy lifestyles and see better results from their training.  What’s an affiliate?  That just means if you order your Fitbit through our link or ads on our website, we will get a small commission (yipee). But that’s really small compared to the value we feel it will add to helping our clients track their daily activity, nutrition, and now heart rate monitoring with the new Charge HR – our preferred model.  This one tracks continuous heart rate, all day activity and sleep (I’m in trouble lol!)  By adding heart rate monitoring, you can track your intensity in your workouts a little more “scientifically” because we can help you determine target heart rate ranges to keep your heart rate in to maximize your fitness gains and fat loss results. This Spring, we are planning to re-launch Star City Boot Camp with the option to add Fitbit and metabolic training at our Ferguson Fitness Studio which will be not only fun but effective!  But I can see this being a great tool for our online challenges and clients as well.  When you are working out at home, you don’t have that extra “push” of competition like a group class or trainer being there with you and admittedly, it might be easy to slack off or take more “breaks”.  But if you add heart rate monitoring, now you can make sure your heart rate is in the right training zone and make sure you are training safely.   Beachbody is about to launch an entirely new program THIS WEEK and I wanted to share the details with you!!! It’s called Beachbody On Demand and it is the ability to instantly stream any workout in the Beachbody Digital library to your laptop, tablet, or mobile device- wherever you have an internet connection! Plus you can get digital versions of the program guides and workout calendars, so you can start getting results today! The digital library will be updated monthly with fresh workouts and different programs, so you never run out of the on the go options. All you need is literally an internet connection! We are very excited about this new innovation and can’t wait to start using it and helping our clients on the go! On Demand is perfect for people who have “workout ADD”- defined as the person who cannot start and finish a workout program but bounces all over the place and likes to do different workouts everyday!
